This kinda feels like a work around for a bug in gnome-shell. Is there an existing bug report for this? Would you care to file on on bugzilla.gnome.org?

Master gnome-shell was changed to use "monitor with pointer", so if one wants primary it may install the extension. I see no reason not to approve.
