Very interesting! Actually, this would be nice to have for Core GNOME (as a out-of-process search provider, rather than a shell extension), especially if we could arrange a partnership with Amazon and get some useful money out of it. Could you route your proposal upstream? Thank you!

Partnership with Amazon is pretty simple - in fact gnome already has an Amazon affiliate code which is listed in the readme.md file. I feel a key feature of this is that it permits the user to control the affiliate code and decide which organisation or charity they would like to support with their purchases. I am not sure what you mean by routing the proposal upstream. I would like to modify the settings dialog to have a dropdown list of commonly supported organisations and charities but allow the user to type in one of their own choosing, however I am not sure how to do that, it would certainly be something I want to add in a future version.

If you want an editable dropdown list, you can use Gtk.ComboBox({ has_entry: true }). Anyway, what I meant about routing the proposal upstream was basically turning this into a session service which uses the DBus interface for search providers, and proposing it for inclusion in Core, then talking with foundation board members about a better strategic partnership with Amazon.
