Are you the new maintainer of the OpenWeather extension? If so, ask the original author to give you the ownership via opening a request here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/extensions-web/-/issues
I've just submitted a request, thanks! https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/extensions-web/-/issues/185
I've suggested that since I know the original developer don't want to maintain it anymore. but the original developer should be asking for that. Contact the original author and ask them if they want to transfer it to you. I think since you mentioned them in ggo, they will be notified. After the transfer you can use the original `uuid` in metadata.json.
Looks like he has just responded. For the uuid would it be best to use my new one "openweather@skrewball.gitlab.com" as it references my namespace? The name I will definitely change to the original OpenWeather though.
If you change the uuid it will be a fork. Not a transfer. If you want to have your name in metadata.json you can let the uuid be the original but use `original-authors`: ```js "original-authors": [ ..., "email or name", ], ```
I did technically fork the repo but I think I understand what you mean. I have to use the same uuid for it to show up in the original listing here on ego and changing it will create a new listing, correct? After reading the review guidelines I thought that was controlled by the name, perhaps I misunderstood. https://gjs.guide/extensions/review-guidelines/review-guidelines.html#metadata-json-must-be-well-formed Apologies, first time uploading extensions. :)
Yes, changing uuid means it will show up as another extension not the same as original. If you change the uuid, users won't be able to update the original extension. If you need any help with your extension you can ask us on: - [GNOME Matrix Channel](https://matrix.to/#/#extensions:gnome.org) - IRC Bridge: irc://irc.gimpnet.org/shell-extensions
I understand now, thanks for clarifying! One last question, Jens is ok with the transfer, is it possible to upload an update to the current extension using the same uuid so users can get these fixes while waiting for the GNOME devs to transfer ownership?
It's better to wait until the ownership gets transferred. If you didn't get any response in three days, you can pin `@Yuri Konotopov` in Matrix channel: https://matrix.to/#/#extensions:gnome.org
