This extension adds speech to text (dictation) to the GNOME Shell using OpenAI’s Whisper automatic speech recognition model. The extension captures audio, runs transcription locally, and copies the transcribed text into your clipboard. It requires installing a companion D-Bus service (installer included). This extension accesses the clipboard to copy transcribed text.

Hello Gnome Extension Reviewer (likely JustPerfection!) I got a number of user feedback so I have tried to accommodate the higher priority ones: 1- Added compatibility with Gnome 49. 2- Changed the venv installation script to work with newer distros (e.g. Fedora 43) that come with python 3.14 and would break compatibility with whisper which is only compatible till 3.12. 3- Gave the user to ability to select the whisper model (defaulting to 'base') and also whether they want to use cpu or gpu mode (defaulting to 'cpu' since it's the most compatible version). It only installs what it needs since in 'cpu' mode the giant cuda packages are not needed. 4- Added a non-blocking option so that the audio transcription happens in the background and the user is notified when it's done. Thanks, Kaveh
