To the reviewer: This new version cleans up the code quite a bit - simpler functions and more inline documentation. However, the biggest change is that the extension will now use polkit to elevate the user's privileges to get write access to the required sysfs interface (if and only if the user does not have the mentioned write privileges). I understand that this is quite an important change, and it was motivated by the comments of the people who used the extension. Of course I totally understand if this use of polkit is not acceptable for an extension. Thank you for your feedback.
