What is the line 7963 `extension.js` is trying to do? Checking the latest version of extension?

Hi! Yes, since many are not even looking at the GitHub repo, the idea is to create a mechanism which will help people to discover about the upcoming version (here referred as beta) and help to test it before it gets published. New GNOME versions keep coming and the user base keeps growing: testing from GNOME 42 is becoming a bit time consuming and error prone ahahah

You shouldn't do that when users haven't chosen to do so. Also, for the end user, this means you are collecting their distribution information without their knowledge. I recommend removing that. Users can still build the package themselves if they want the latest from the repo.

Uh...I didn't think about that, you are right! I will publish a new version without that part of the code, thanks for your review!
